My African Journey

Hello, I’m Jessica Brühwiler, the founder of Maisha Travel by Jess.

My connection to Africa began with a journey that moved me deeply – a journey that never really ended. With each return, my understanding, my network, and my love for this region have grown.

Since 2023, I’ve been designing tailor-made trips for private travellers: couples, friends, and small groups looking for a personal, curated and authentic way to explore Southern Africa.

What defines my approach:
• one-to-one guidance from the first idea to the return home
• carefully selected lodges that combine quality, nature, and atmosphere
• close collaboration with trusted partners in Southern Africa
• a boutique, detail-oriented style instead of mass travel

I intentionally take on only a small number of guests at a time, ensuring space for quality, personalisation, and thoughtful planning. My aim is to create journeys that not only work beautifully — but tell a story you carry with you.

Africa offers moments that are quiet, powerful, and unforgettable.

Spent eleven nights over New Year’s in Kenya 🇰🇪
It was my fourth time in Kenya and my second time at the coast, and I still really enjoy coming back.

I loved the white sand, the blue ocean and walking along the water with a coconut in my hand 🥥🌊
What I really loved was how open and wide the beach feels – depending on the tide it changes all the time, and there’s always something small happening.

It’s such a nice place to be outside, slow down and simply enjoy the ocean air. Being here also reminded me that this was already my second New Year’s in Kenya – the first one spent in the bush in the Masai Mara, something I’ll never forget.

Kenya is one of my favourite places to combine safari and the sea – bush first, early mornings on safari and enjoying the wildlife, then heading to the coast to relax and just let things be. 🐘🌴

Already looking forward to my next trip to Kenya – maybe even with a group. 🇰🇪

2025 — a year that stayed with me.

A year shaped by travel.
Different places, different rhythms.
Travel keeps teaching me — about the world and about myself 🌍

A lot of this year I spent in the bush.
On safari. With wildlife.
That’s where I feel most grounded.
Almost no signal, no noise — just nature.
Watching animals, seeing how everything connects.
You move with nature. And that feels right 🐘🌿

Some moments I’ll always remember:
🇿🇲 Zambia in January — time by the Zambezi River and meeting so many travelers. Simple and real.
🇧🇼 April in Botswana — flying over the Okavango Delta, a once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.
🇿🇲 July and August traveling with my mum.
Time together in South Luangwa — very special.
Staying at @msandileriverlodge with her, surrounded by such warm, kind people 🤍
From Luangwa we continued to the Kenyan coast 🇰🇪 — time by the ocean, slow days, beautiful moments 🌊

🇲🇼 🇿🇲 Malawi & Zambia in October — traveling again and preparing for what comes next.

Because what started as an idea is now real:
my first group trip to Zambia & Malawi this October.
I’m really looking forward to taking people into the bush and sharing this world with them ✨

I’m ending 2025 in Kenya, at Diani Beach 🇰🇪
Taking a pause.

Travel is beautiful, but it’s also real.
Not every moment is easy.
And that’s okay.

Grateful for 2025.

My heart is full here in Africa. 🌍🧡

People always ask why I keep coming back to Africa. “Don’t you want to see something else?” But when your heart is full, why would you give up that feeling? Every part of Africa is unique — different tribes, cultures, landscapes — and even returning to the same place offers new experiences and magic.

I’m deeply grateful to explore this incredible continent, to witness wildlife up close, and to reconnect with the roots we all share. Africa is not just a destination; it’s a feeling that words cannot fully capture.

Here’s to many more journeys back to Africa’s heart. 🌿🐘🌅
